Blissfields 2015

This week sees Blissfields 2015 kick off, and Dirt Cheap Mag will be there to cover the festivities, enjoy the vibes and (hopefully) the good weather!

Now in its 15th year Blissfields has grown in scope, if not in size, with an intimate audience of only 4000 and with over 160 acts playing this must be one of the most packed lineups this year! Big on green values the festival encourages litter pickup with each ticket purchase, and features a wide array of acts and activities beyond the musical offerings; including arts & crafts, yoga, lectures, film screening and circus performances.

The setting, in rural Winchester, has to be one of the biggest draws – surrounded by beautiful hills and wooded areas this is the perfect location for a relaxing and family-fun event. With this years event themed ‘Somewhere in Time’ now’s the chance to get creative with some wacky costumes – aliens, cavemen and knights come out to play!

You can still purchase tickets (at a very pocket friendly price of just £95 for an adult weekend ticket) here.

Stay tuned for the full report to come soon.

The “Amen break” is arguably the most important 6 seconds of music ever recorded.

There is now a ‘gofundme’ to give back some royalties to ‘The Winstons’ the band who created it.

The drummer who played the beat died penniless…

If you’ve listened to Hip-Hop, Jungle, Breakbeat, Drum n Bass, Techno, EDM – Then you’ve heard it. Immensely important piece of music.

Juna Cosmos – Mindless EP

Underground producer/rapper Juna Cosmos has been getting some good press recently, you can now cop his latest offering ‘Mindless’.

Heavy bass-driven tracks and almost spoken-word rapping give this Trap/Alternative Hip-Hop release a gritty, raw and heavy feel. A bit monotonous for me, but sure to be a hit in the dingy packed out clubs.

You can follow his work here, via soundcloud here, and download the EP from here.

First of a series of Mixtapes from our friends over at UK Streetwear brand Never Second. First up is one of London’s top Hip-hop spinners ‘Spin Doctor‘ with 30 minutes of classic Hip-Hop.

Jake Bugg – Jump on the craze!

Jake Bugg – The boy with a contagious sound. The 18 year old Nottingham born singer-songwriter is fast becoming the name on everyone’s lips – with the recent release of his eponymous debut LP . Take the cultural awareness of Bob Dylan and the swagger of a certain older Gallagher brother, and you’ve got yourself Jake Bugg. With a song-writing prowess seemingly steeped in nostalgia and way beyond his years, its hard to believe Bugg was born in 1994. With his songs reminiscent of the Legendary Buddy Holly, if he grew up on a council estate in East Midlands. A touch of rock ‘n’ roll with a hint of folk blues.

But don’t be fooled, though his older peers influence may shine through in his music, modern themes in Buggs lyrics remind us that our generation has it’s own problems and not to dwell on the ones of a bygone era. If you’re hunting for a contemporary artist with a vintage twist, just listen to the boy with the guitar and you’ll not be disappointed.
