Seen a few of these floating around but think they are worth a full post, awesome.

Festival of Light commissions

This year, Festival of Light will take place on 2nd to 4th December 2011 in Huddersfield town centre.

We are really keen to provide more opportunities for local artists to have their work commissioned as part of the festival. Commissions are likely to be small and up to £15K maximum. How many we can support will depend on whether we can successfully attract funding.

In order that we can submit funding bids, if you have an idea for a commission please send a brief description of what you would like to do and where in Huddersfield town centre you would do it with likely total cost to adele.poppleton@kirklees.gov.uk by 3rd May 2011.

It is likely to be the middle of August when we will be able to notify you of whether we can commission you to produce the work. Remember this is Festival of Light which means we are looking for artwork around the theme of light which is suitable for the outdoors or an easily accessible indoor space such as Byram Arcade or a shop window that is within the ring road of Huddersfield town centre. We are also looking for creative proposals about how we connect the different spaces to ensure that the audience can visit all the artworks and other activities.

The installation could be anything! Let your imagination go wild! Here are just a couple of examples for inspiration:

Light rain

I nearly turned this off half way through, don’t. Watch it, beautiful…
