Badman Ting vs Depthcuts – Pennines’ biggest nights team up for farewell Manchester Jungle gig

Our friends over at Badman Ting and Depthcuts are teaming up for Badman Ting vs Depthcuts, which promises to be a huge night for Jungle heads!

Manchester’s only dedicated old skool jungle night Badman Ting is coming to an end with a special Badman Ting vs Depthcuts, at Manchester’s Club Academy, Friday 13th July.

Three veterans of jungle music, Dom and Roland, Bad Company and Remarc will be gracing the decks with golden-era jungle sets, including a rare No U-Turn records showcase from Dom.

Dom and Roland has been a seminal figure in the drum’n’bass scene since its emergence in the early 90s. For nearly two decades his brand of dark dnb has received heavy DJ support from contemporaries such as Grooverider and Ed Rush, but he has also received regular airplay from many outside the dnb scene, such as the late John Peel.
Dom is joined by Maldini of the first drum’n’bass supergroup Bad Company – responsible for classics such as ‘Nitrous’, ‘Planet Dust’ and most notably ‘The Nine’, which has been voted the best drum’n’bass track ever in various polls. Rounding off the line up is ‘king of the amen’ Remarc – having released his first ragga jungle track back in 1993, he will feel right at home.

Promoter Nanny said: “We’re sad to see the end of a regular dedicated jungle experience in Manchester. We feel like every line up we’ve put together has been a little special and this one is no different. As always it’s going to be a really good atmosphere and from the response we’ve had so far we’re expecting to out with a bang.”

Badman Ting launched over a year ago and has gained an enviable reputation as Manchester’s premier night for jungle music. Highlighted by the Guardian last year as one of the country’s best new club nights, it has been credited with putting the fun back into parties. Their uncompromising old skool jungle and golden era dnb music policy has provided a haven for ravers less enamoured with the way the drum’n’bass scene has developed since the turn of the century.
Depthcuts is Yorkshire’s longest running drum’n’bass and hip-hop night, and it also has a highly popular sister night ‘LDN DC’ in London. This event celebrates its tenth birthday.

Our friends at Urban Nerds are this year celebrating 5 years of throwing London’s biggest underground warehouse and club parties. To mark the occasion they are putting on a huge event at Scala, King’s Cross, on Saturday 26th May.

Going back to the roots of the music they started with in 2007 to showcase the best UK bass, grime, dubstep and garage acts in London, alongside some great up-and-coming talent.

Saturday 26th May | 10:00pm – 06:00am

Super limited £5 earlybird tickets – sold out!
2nd release limited £10 tickets – sold out!

Urban Nerds celebrate five years of crazy line-ups in London, as we pull out all the stops to hand pick a diverse set of underground UK bass, dubstep, grime and funky acts on one of our broadest cross-sections of talent yet…we’re marking 5 with a return to the deep underground sounds that we kicked off with back in 2007!

Grime veterans Newham Generals – MCs D Double E and Footsie – have gone from strength to strength in recent years. This is an act known for their lyrical aptitude and versatile musical styling that sees them successfully straddling the genres of grime and dubstep with releases such as ‘Generally Speaking’ in 2009. Dynamic and seamless, theirs will be a highlight set!

Gorgon City is the brand new powerful collaboration between Foamo and RackNRuin. These UK bass producers come together in style to produce big sounds – for this highly anticipated new project.

Klashnekoff, who made his name in the underground UK hip hop scene with singles such as ‘Murda’ in 2004, boosts the bass ranks, alongside Rudimental, whose ‘Feel the Love’ is currently Radio 1’s Mistajam’s JAM HOT track of the week. Urban Nerds’ newest resident, Rinse FM’s Marcus Nasty is undoubtedly one of the pioneers of the UK funky movement. He’ll be kicking up the pace with MCs PSG and Sharky P, while fellow Nerds resident Rattus Rattus will deliver one of his smash-out sets hosted by drum ‘n’ bass legend MC, IC3.

Room 2 presents two of the hottest UK grime labels: No Hats No Hoods versus King Pigeon Records. Bringing together the finest from both camps, DJs Warrior One, Rude Kid, Magic, Eastwood, Guerilla Speakerz, Lenkemz, Murlo and a live PA of ‘Beautiful’ by Jae Ella will keep the vibe rude and bouncy. Hyping up the crowd are MCs of the moment, Kozzie, Scrufizzer, Trilla, Chronik, Merky Ace and Roachee.

Two of London’s fastest growing party-starting crews, our mates at Get Low and Redux go head to head in Room 3. with residents Get Low Cartel, Binman, Arch, Sai, Newjack and RankOutsider, selecting across a broad span of genres ranging from jungle and dubstep to bassline!

Already causing a stir having been recognised as one of the top 5 new club nights in the country by The Guardian Club Guide, Manchester night; ‘Bad Man Ting’ have announced their next gig – ‘Oktobersesh’ featuring the likes of the mighty MAMPI SWIFT! one of my favourite DJs live. Who will be playing a ‘turn of the century’ set, with a set of his fave big hitters from way back when! This is going to be MASSSSSIVE and you are unlikely to see another set like it for a while. Mampi will be supported by the one and only MC Fearless, another true veteran of the scene.

Alongside Mampi they have another heavy headline act, bringing one of Jungle’s pioneers to the venue: Bizzy B will be spinning a ‘NEW Oldskool’ set! which will be oldskool jungle but updated to the production standard of today, should be dope!

As well as this massive lineup (all for £6 before 11pm!!) they have Devious D B2B Rick O Chet, Nanny Banton, Vamos, Open Plan DJ’S, DJ A-UP, Too Many Cooks, Mark Dean AND Bass! BMT is dedicated to JUNGLE, (ya know before Drum n Bass Kids!) glad to see it’s not just me who wants more jungle out there!

Should be a wicked night and the Dirt Cheap/Depthcuts team will be out in force! For more info check their facebook group here, and event here.
