And now for something very chilled out, a sublime piece from Eliza Shaddad, produced by Mercury Music Prize nominee Chris Bond. From her critically acclaimed debut EP, Waters, ‘Alright Again’ is both emotional and delicate with a melancholic edge, this folk acoustic piece demonstrates she is clearly a talent to watch, while other songs from the EP have an ambient warmth. The production throughout is top notch.

‘Before the sun sets’ is the brand new EP from Stefan Melbourne, you may remember us posting a little piece on him earlier, which you can see here.
At Dirt Cheap we usually seem to align ourselves to the Hip Hop/Electronic genres, however we can appreciate other genres too (honest!). I know little of the indie/acoustic/folk scenes however I will endeavour to describe and review the EP as best I can!
Even though this is not our usual thing, the EP has been on repeat in our office since we had it delivered last week! The four tracks work really well together and are definitely stylistically quite strong and distinctive. The sound is to me quite melancholic, though maybe that is the wrong word… possibly nostalgic is a better fit, Stefan’s lyrics make quite vivid pictures in my mind, almost cinematic in a way, and I would definitely say listening to the songs I can imagine them as the soundtrack to the penultimate scene in a movie.

Fancy supporting some amazing local talent? PaperPlane are based in the Halifax and Todmorden area and I can safely say they are incredible live, with their loyal following attending almost every gig, welcoming new fans along the way. The trio, made up of Jack Bennett (Vocals and guitar), Kristian Arak (Bass) and Kristan Read (Drums) are finally bringing out their debut album, and will be holding an album launch at The Victoria Theatre in Halifax on the 30th July. Tickets are only £6 and there’s even an after party! The band’s awesome album artwork is created by local artist Jono Bishop. You can find out more about PaperPlane at their MySpace site, http://www.myspace.com/paperplaneuk. See you down there!
