There’s just five days and counting until the Guy Bourdin: Image Maker exhibition closes its doors after an extended run at Somerset House. If you’re in London and can make it past the fashion pack (and the photographers baying for their blood) hanging around the place over the next few days for LFW, the retrospective is definitely worth a visit.
Beginning his career in the mid-‘50s and honing his expertise under the guidance of Man Ray, Bourdin is renowned for a high-shine, high-fashion, highly-saturated aesthetic and notably, the distinctive narrative that runs throughout his work.
As well as these stylised final images, the exhibition offers a chance to see the work behind the images – from the Polaroid test shots, contact sheets and composition sketches, to the Super-8 shorts he made throughout the shoots, including one never-seen-before film.
The exhibition is at Somerset House until Sunday. Tickets and more information are here.

So before i enter 2013, i thought i would share one of my favourite upcoming trends with you guys. Girl power has been creeping up on us for a while and it has finally arrived. Take the sound of modern day bands, Vivian Girls and Best Coast with The Cranberries add a little sprinkle of Spice girls the movie (a guilty pleasure of mine) and classic 90’s TV shows, Clarissa explains it all and my so called life – Ladies and gentlemen we have ourselves the modern and playful 90’s trend!
90’s spirit – WGSN trend board.
The catwalks were filled with 90’s girl power, models skipped down the runway sporting big bunches, bulky frayed braids and lots of ponytails. You want scrunchies you’ve got them, glitter, velvet, printed, the choice goes on and on. The pretty grunge trend has a dreamy, youthful essence, dominant delicate colour palettes of pastels works well with retro prints, lace and denim. Go playful with frosted pink lips, blushed cheeks and pastel hair dyes – a great way to complete the look.
Get creative and show your inner spice girl with modern platforms, halter necks and coordinating colours. Alternatively grunge the trend up, wearing lots of layers, double denims and big black flatforms. You can go as girly or grungy as you desire, just remember to find your 90’s spirit in 2013.
